Фото: Irad Wiki CommonsНуржан (until 1992 Kobozev) is the industrial and petrochemical capital of Irad and the second city of the territory. It was laid out under the general plan of 1927 on the flat Chu plain at about 470 m, on both banks of the Chu. The city was renamed Nurzhan, "light of life", in 1992. The city's economy rests on the oil refinery and NurGaz, the railway junction of Irad Temir Jolu, Nurzhanmash and the Nurzhan Polytechnic Institute. Nurzhan is the home of the Soviet chess school of the Kobozev Pioneers' Palace and of four trolleybus routes running since 1966. Районы города City districts
